The full name for citrine is citrine quartz. Natural colorful citrine is very rare. Most modern citrine gems are heat-treated to bring out their color.

Citrine has been used in jewelry for thousands of years. The Egyptians used them for talismans. Greeks carved them into crystal ornaments. Romans used them to make rings. Even gems dating back from the Victorian era have been discovered.
