Turquoise is considered to the one of the most ancient gems. Ancient Egyptians adorned themselves with turquoise jewelry. Chinese artisans used them for carving more than 3000 years ago. It’s also the national gem of tibet.

The name “turquoise” comes from the French phrase “Turkish stone”. This has led historians to believe that turquoise probably first arrived to Europe via Turkey. It is a ceremonial gem for Native Americans. It was commonly used in amulets and the Apaches believed that a turquoise attached to a bow would increase a hunter’s accuracy

Today, most turquoise is still associated with the American Southwest.
