The Good, the Bad and the Ugly is a 1966 Italian spaghetti Western film. It was directed by Sergio Leone and starred Clint Eastwood as “the Good”, Lee Van Cleef as “the Bad”, and Eli Wallach as “the Ugly”.

The film is known for unique cinematography, as well as the use of violence and highly stylized gunfights. The plot revolves around three gunslingers competing to find a fortune of Confederate gold amid the violent chaos of the American Civil War.

The Good, the Bad and the Ugly is the third and final installment in the Dollars Trilogy. It follows A Fistful of Dollars and For a Few Dollars More. The film was a financial success, grossing over $38 million at the worldwide box office. It is credited with giving Eastwood his stardom. While critical reception of the film following its release was mixed it gained acclaim in later years. It became known as the “definitive spaghetti Western”.
